Sheffield Student Deals

Here is a round-up of some of the fantastic student and discounts available in the Sheffield area.  Some of these include discounted tickets for sporting events, reduced rates at the cinema and on local buses as well as numerous offers at a variety of pubs and clubs.

La Coupe Orchard Square, Sheffield

Offer: 20% discount Monday to Thursday with valid student card.

La Coupe Studio is a trendy and fashionable hairdressers in the centre of town in orchard square. The studio itself is really impressive whilst the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The studio offers the usual hair treatments such as colouring, cuts etc for both males and females. There are both male and female hairdressers who are highly qualified and really good at what they do! Although La Coupe is at the higher end of the market, 20% discount really does give you a large saving.

The Cavendish West Street, Sheffield

Offer: Students can purchase a yellow card which gives a variety of offers on and drinks.

The yellow card comes at a small cost which has generally varied overtime but usually costs around £2. The card can then be used in the Cavendish alone in order to redeem discounts on a wide selection of drinks, meals and food etc. The discount generally varies with the item purchased and may change to offer a different discount. The yellow card, although coming at a small cost, may in fact save pounds over time, especially if you are a regular visitor!

Showroom Cinema 15 Paternoster Row, Sheffield

Offer: £4 student tickets from Sunday to Thursday.

Showroom is one of the largest independent cinemas in Europe with four auditoria, education spaces and a café area. Students can gain discounted tickets for the cinema which shows films from around the world, contemporary film and classic cinema. Although they do not offer listings similar to those of Vue or Cineworld for example, the showroom offers something a little different and a more cultural variety of films and shows for a much cheaper price.

Mad Racket (Wednesdays) at Paris Nightclub Paris Nightclub, 24 Carver Street, Sheffield

Offer: Free entry before 12, £2 after (Should be £3 then £4 after midnight). Also Student drink deals with a student card. (Entry discount may be gained with a Shef Counts Card)

Paris is an amazing nightclub offering a variety of club nights to suit everyone’s tastes! Mad Racket Wednesdays are aimed particularly at Students and alongside gaining cheaper entry with a student card, cheap drink deals and offers are available all night!

Tiger Works 136 West Street, Sheffield

Offer: £4 Round- includes a VS, bomb and a shot. (Available with the Shef counts card)

Tiger Works is a great bar on West Street with good music and always a good crowd. The staff are always friendly and ensure the bar remains trouble-free and enjoyable for everyone. Student offers at Tiger Works makes it a great place to go for a few pre drinks or just for a few quiet drinks at low prices. Tiger Works bar is a little more upper class than West Streets ‘Bedroom’ or ‘Pinkys’ for example,  if you’re after something a little more sophisticated.

The Wash-House Studio 26 Brandreth Road, Sheffield

Offer: £10ph or £80 day recording session.  The discount / offer can be redeemed with a Shefcounts discount card. Details of the card can be found at: LINK

The wash-house studio offers sound and music recording for all your needs. The studio possesses equipment such as Full drum kit, 7 guitars including bass, electric and acoustic and Tannoy Reveal active monitors as just a few of the many pieces of equipment on offer! The studio is advertised as a semi- pro studio delivering a pro sound at obviously a cheap price for students! Situated in the Walkley area, the studio really is a stone’s throw away from University.

Happy Jays 528-530 Manchester Road, Stocksbridge

Happy Jays is a boutique for women and children offering fashionable clothing at cheaper prices.  Items and products are often advertised on the facebook page so it is worth adding the page incase there are any items you spot. The facebook page is also useful to contact the store as it is slightly out of the Sheffield area. Happy Jays offers fashion on a budget, perfect for us students!

University of Sheffield Sporting Events

Rather than spending up to around £30 for tickets to a sporting event such as a Sheffield United football match or a Sheffield Steelers game, head down to the Sheffield University Union for highly discounted tickets! Save the pounds whilst gaining access to many of the games within the sporting seasons. Some matches & games may not provide tickets to the Sheffield Union but it is definitely worth checking first! This offer is available to Sheffield University students only.

Stagecoach

Offer: Stagecoach offer the ‘Unirider’ ticket and discount to all Sheffield Students.

The current academic year prices are below. This gives an idea of the likely prices for the upcoming academic year.

Unirider prices are as follows for the 2011/2012 academic year:

Annual ticket £250  — 11 September 2011 – 16 June 2012

1st term £100 – 11 Sep 2011 -17 Dec 2011

2nd term £85 — 01 January  2012 – 31 March 2012

3rd term £70 — 15 April 2012 – 16 June 2012

If you are a regular user of the Sheffield Supertram you will probably be aware of the prices you might expect to pay for a single or return journey. The Uni rider discount offers highly discounted prices for journeys with no restriction on the time or the usage of the trams so that once the ticket is purchased you can use the trams how often and whenever you like! Some journeys can cost up to £2.70 for a single fair meaning that if you purchase the 3rd term ticket, for example, you could make your money back in 25 journeys!
